Grilled Cheese Cart Comes to LA

If I were to list my favorite comfort foods, grilled cheese and soup (my mom’s cheesy potato soup) would be both near the top of the list.  Well, according the LA Times, Dave Dahni is working to make grilled cheese that much more accessible in the Los Angeles area.  He’s starting a grilled cheese food cart.

For its initial rollout, the Grilled Cheese Truck will feature a menu of four to five standard sandwiches, including a plain grilled cheese sandwich on your choice of wheat or white bread; a caprese made with heirloom tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil; and a California melt made with smoked turkey, avocado, bacon, tomato, Monterey jack and cheddar.

This sounds amazing.

Maybe I just live in the wrong part of Washington, DC but I never seem to see these types of specialty food carts.  Why can’t we have more of these littered all over Capitol Hill.

Do you get much food from food carts?  If so, what’s your favorite?

Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover

So… I got into Los Angeles around noon today and immediately, after getting my rental car, drove up to Pasadena to meet up with my friend Sarah. We were deciding where to get lunch and I said that I wanted to go to some cool local Mexican place.

We ended up going to Mijares. At first glance, I would have probably just blown right on by the restaurant and never thought twice about it. Boy would have that been a mistake.

This quaint simple Mexican place quickly prepared some solid tasty Mexican food. I had the crab enchiladas and they were delicious. When you add on to their the rice and the refried beans, this was and incredibly filling meal. With that we had sangria, which hit the spot.

I guess it got me thinking. How many great restaurants have I blown by in my life and totally judged them by how they look from the front door?

Have you had this experience? Did you go back later, try the restaurant, and love it? If so, tell me about the story.

What Food Should I Try In LA?

Right now, I’m sitting in BWI airport waiting for my flight to Los Angeles, California (LAX).  I’m going to be out there for a few days.

While I’m out there, what are the foods that I must try?

Whenever I travel, I love to get the local fare.  I want to eat the food that you can only get right there.

What do you recommend?
