Sampling Sake at Sticky Rice in Northeast Washington, DC

| More

As  I mentioned in a previous post, sake is a whole world of beverages that I really haven’t dived into.  It’s always been something that I’ve wanted to try but hadn’t been courageous enough to just plunk down the cash to buy a whole bottle at a wine store.

Well, last night, I went out with a few friends to one of DC’s newest sushi places, Sticky Rice.  In addition to some AMAZING sushi, they have a really nice variety of sake.  The best part is you can get a sake sampler.   It was only $10.  Plus you can get the premium sampler for $17.

Having not had sake before I figured that $10 wasn’t too much for a little bit of education.  So… they brought out to me a board with 5 shot glasses on it.

Each shot glass had a different type of sake in it.  It ranged from driest to sweetest.  There was filtered and unfiltered.   It ran from something that tasted like hard alcohol to something that tasted like wine.

All in all, it was a lot of fun and I’d highly recommend that everyone gives sake a try.  If you’re in DC, check out Sticky Rice.  You won’t be disappointed.  Get some sushi and try a variety of sake.

Do you drink sake often?  If so what would you recommend for the first bottle that I buy?
