I have a deep and vexing existential question that’s been bugging me, ever since I got back from San Francisco a few weeks ago. What’s the better burger, Five Guys or In-N-Out?
I’m leaning towards the East Coast’s very own Five Guys. (Don’t hate if you feel the opposite.) To me, In-N-Out burgers feel loosely thrown together and the fries are drab. It’s good but “meh.”
What do you think and why? Leave me a comment. If neither are in your geographic area, what is your favorite place to get a burger?

Admittedly I've only had In-N-Out Burger once and Five Guys lots of times, but I have to go with Five Guys. But even then, it goes beyond just the burger… there's the experience. Ordering, the peanuts, the not-quite-hole-in-the-wall feel in most locations… it makes for a good experience all the way around.

I've never had In and Out, but I do love me some Five Guys… (though lately my burger of choice has been Good Stuff, for location and quality)

FIVE GUYS hands down… I had In-n-Out last weekend and wasn't that impressed — though I did enjoy my animal style… it was kind of like really good McDonald's

Actually if you want a good West Coast burger — go to Fatburger. Awesome charred crust mmm

Five Guys are really nice and the experience is great, but It's a tossup between Good Stuff Eatery and Ray's Hell Burger (only been there once). I guess it depends on where you are and what you are in the mode for a the time.
I think I favor the latter two more, since I have gone with friends and we have a good time, along with great converations. I mostly go to Five Guys on my own or after a web event because it's open and I have not eaten dinner.

Five guys no contest!
In and Out was a let down when I grabbed a bite to eat in 2007 in Reno. I had already eaten at 5 guys many times before that so it had to live up their burgers, but it was bland comparatively!

east coast people. they just opened up a five guys here in LA and it tastes like any other charbroiled burger place like “steve's”. In-n-out hands down. People from Europe that i meet tell me they prefer in-n-out too!
